How We Did It
Step 1: Damp Proofing the Wall
A damp-proof layer was already in place to protect against moisture. This created a dry and stable surface, ensuring a strong base before boarding.
Step 2: Adding Insulation Boards for the Curve
To create the curve, we used 65mm insulation boards. These boards were carefully cut into strips and attached to the wall piece by piece. Cutting them into strips was essential to achieve the curve, as it allowed the boards to bend smoothly and follow the wall’s shape without breaking or creating uneven surfaces. This step took a lot of measuring and patience to make sure the curve was smooth and even.
Step 3: Bonding the Surface
Once the insulation boards were in place, we bonded the surface. This step smoothed out the gaps between the boards and made the wall solid. This bonding process not only filled gaps and ensured structural integrity but also created an ideal surface for the final plaster layer, enhancing both the durability and appearance of the finished wall.
Step 4: Skimming the Wall
The last step was applying a skim coat, which is a thin layer of plaster. This is where our team’s skills really shone. We worked carefully to make sure the wall was perfectly smooth and ready for painting or decorating.
